Yesterday, members of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) met with students and teachers after the school resumed classes. The meeting followed a serious incident in which petrol and threatening messages were discovered in a teacher’s office. Some students had expressed intentions of burning the school because they felt their concerns had not been heard.
Instead of allowing fear and tension to grow, we chose dialogue. The students were given an open forum where they could speak honestly about the challenges they face. Among the issues they raised were poor quality food, harsh disciplinary practices by some teachers, and other concerns that have affected their well-being and learning environment.
As PTA members, we listened carefully and worked together with the school administration to begin finding practical solutions. We believe that open communication is the first step toward restoring trust and creating a peaceful school community.
During the meeting, I requested an opportunity to share God’s Word with the students every week so they can receive spiritual guidance, encouragement, and hope. I am grateful that the school administration welcomed this proposal. We also discovered that many students are carrying heavy personal burdens, with some struggling with depression and emotional challenges that have affected their desire to continue learning. They need not only education, but also love, hope, and people who will walk alongside them.
Please continue praying for the students in Kenya. Negative influences from outside the school continue to encourage destructive behavior, including the burning of schools. Our young people need positive role models, compassionate mentors, and communities that will stand with them during difficult times.
Another urgent need raised during our discussion was the lack of basic personal hygiene supplies for many girls. Many require sanitary pads, soap, and other essential items to help them attend school with dignity and confidence. Through our church, we have been supporting vulnerable girls where we can, and I am trusting God to extend this outreach to this school as well.
The need is significant. Nearly 400 packs of sanitary towels are required, along with other hygiene essentials. Meeting this need will require generous financial support and caring partners who believe in investing in the future of these young people.
If you would like to stand with us through prayer, encouragement, or practical support, your partnership can make a lasting difference. Together, we can help restore hope, protect the dignity of these students, and create an environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
