Bringing Hope to Orphans: How I Helped Gerry and Lawrence Stay in School

Every child deserves a chance to learn, to grow, and to dream. Yet, for many orphaned children, those chances are often stolen by poverty, hunger, and lack of support. Today, I want to share the stories of two amazing boys—Lawrence and Gerry—whose lives took a turn for the better through small acts of love and kindness.

Lawrence’s Story: Equipping a Dreamer

Lawrence happy to receive books

Lawrence, pictured above, is an orphan who had no access to even the most basic school materials. No books. No pens. No exercise books. Yet he showed up to school, determined to learn.

When I met him, I saw not just a child in need, but a young man full of hope and determination. I immediately provided him with the necessary stationeries and enrolled him in a lunch programme. Today, Lawrence walks to school with his head held high, prepared and confident. His joy and gratitude are infectious.

Gerry’s Story: Saving a Life, One Meal at a Time

Gerry back in class again

Gerry’s story is heartbreaking but also deeply inspiring. He had been sent home due to unpaid school fees and had no one to advocate for him. But what shook me most was learning that he had nearly lost his life due to severe ulcers caused by going without food. As an orphan, he couldn’t afford lunch and had gone hungry for far too long.

I stepped in to pay part of his school fees so he could return to class, and just like Lawrence, I enrolled him in the lunch programme. Seeing him healthy, back in uniform, and carrying his books was a reminder that sometimes, saving a life doesn’t require a miracle—just someone who cares.

Why I Do This

There are many more children like Gerry and Lawrence—bright, determined, but blocked by circumstances beyond their control. I believe it is our calling to stand in the gap for them. Whether it’s through school fees, stationeries, or a simple daily meal, every act of compassion plants a seed of hope.

If these stories have touched your heart and you’d like to help support more children like Lawrence and Gerry, I welcome your support. Together, we can give these children not just education, but a future.

“When you give to the least of these, you are giving to God Himself.” – Matthew 25:40
