STRUGGLE FOR WATER DUE TO PROLONGED DROUGHT

The last time it rained was last year in December 25, and since the main activity here is subsistence farming, it has really affected the people in very many ways. No food, no water at all. The nearest dam was a brown water which was shared by both animals, wild animals, e.g snakes, mongoose, squirrels, monkeys and at the same time was being used for domestic purposes like cooking and washing .

It has come to a point where even that one dam is dried up, and people have to travel over 10 km to get water. Recently God blessed us when a truck that brought water for use in a church fund raising gave villagers some. Those who were able collected it saved some for the following day’s use. However it couldn’t last, and the problem still remains .

Lucky again, there at a funeral of a church elder, the water was left after the burial. We were called to fetch it for use, unfortunately the members of the family had to send us away saying that they also needed to use it. Many who had carried jerrycans had to go back empty handed. They had no alternative but to again brave the scorching sun to travel long distance for life saving liquid on there bare foot. We pray for rain. Let it rain.
